Tesla Motors, the only American automaker present at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, is now taking orders for the Model S sedan and the upcoming Model X crossover in Japan.
Still on display at the Tokyo Motor Show, the Tesla Model S can be ordered as we speak with a deposit of $2,500, while the Model X crossover, which is scheduled to arrive sometime in 2014, can be reserved for $5,000. Additionally, Japanese customers can also place an order for the Model X Signature edition, which requires a hefty deposit of $40,000.
Tesla has already opened dealerships in Europe this year, while Chinese deliveries are expected to commence in early 2014.
The company has yet to unveil details about the upcoming Model X crossover, but Musk said the new EV will become available with all-wheel-drive only and with a slightly higher price tag when compared to the Model S sedan.
