So it has come to this. Four years and three months after the Tesla Model S was introduced, the Palo Alto-based electric vehicle-making company is currently deploying the eighth iteration of its software. Other manufacturers should take note of this.
Question: who else except for Tesla Motors continues to add new features to a four-year-old model? This continuous care for its lineup is, in my opinion, one of the biggest selling points of Tesla and one of the most enticing aspects of Tesla ownership. But the question is, is Tesla update 8.0 any good?

Amid reports of Autopilot imperfections and Insane Mode described as being not fast enough, update 8.0 “enhances owner experience and safety” for both the Model S sedan and Model X crossover. The over-the-air software update introduces a significant revamp to the infotainment system’s user interface, including a better media player and easier-to-use voice commands.

For owners who often use the maps and navigation function, the menu now spans the entire touchscreen and displays important trip information. Zoom adjusts, single touch and voice command searches, as well as single swipe navigate to home or work are other highlights brought by this update. Tesla update 8.0 also introduces Cabin Overheat Protection. It’s an industry-first feature that is designed to keep the car cool for prolonged periods of time.

And finally, Autopilot enhancements. Signal processing advancements use radar to created a three-dimensional rendering of the surroundings. What’s more, Autosteer is now able to navigate highway interchanges and curve speed adaptation makes use of fleet-learned roadway curvature.
