Tesla Shooting Lasers at Rain Droplets Is the Mother of All Overkills

Cyberutruck does have a lot of glass surfaces, so lasers it is 1 photo

If we were to travel back in time and tell people of ten years ago that soon we will soon have the ability to summon a car to come pick us up, or neural networks teaching wipers how to do their job, we might have been considered insane. Sure, these things are possible, people would have said, but aren’t they a bit of an overkill?
It could be that they are, but these things are here thanks to Tesla, and people seem to be loving them. As they probably will love lasers being shot at rain droplets and other debris that might be unfortunate enough to land on the car’s windscreen.

If the above sounds a bit far fetched, learn that it is not. Tesla is apparently working on a thing it calls Pulsed Laser Cleaning of Debris Accumulated on Glass Articles in Vehicles and Photovoltaic Assemblies. Read lasers, it’s easier.

According to Electrek, the idea popped into the head of one Tesla imaging specialist by the name of Phiroze Dalal. The guy wants a laser beam to be fired at a windscreen and other glass surfaces of the vehicles, with the goal of removing the debris and stuff.

Essentially that means a glorified windscreen wiper, but all Tesla owners out there would be able to say their insane looking Cybertruck, for instance, shoots lasers.

We’re not sure where we stand on this because really, is there any need for lasers to remove a bug on the windscreen? On the other hand, bragging rights…

The technology is in patent stage at the moment, and we have no idea when or if it will become a reality. The patent applications is said to have been submitted earlier this year, and knowing Tesla and all the crazy things it has done for the industry, it wouldn’t surprise it to see it turn into an actual product sometime soon.
