Tesla's First Incentive Works With a Referral Program, Could get You $1,000 or a Free Model X

Carmakers are always trying to boost sales which is only natural, so coming up with incentives is not something new in the automotive world.

However, in the EV segment, these small price cuts are very popular, as brands that produce green cars want to make these environment-friendly as attractive as possible. And boost sales in the process, of course.

Driven by the same interest in earning more money and selling more cars, Elon Musk came up with Tesla Motors' first discount policy, which is in fact related to a referral program.

According to Bloomberg, Tesla Motors will give discounts when a Tesla owner recommends a Model S to a new buyer in what looks to be the first incentive plan for the company.

In other words, if you order a Tesla Model S before October 31 using a referral link assigned to a current customer, you get $1,000 off the car's purchase sticker. The owner will also benefit from a $1,000 bonus than can be used in various ways, like on a new car, a service center visit or accessories, for example.

The same source claims owners who make five referral orders will be rewarded with an invitation for two to the grand opening party for the Gigafactory - scheduled for April 2016.

Here's what Elon Musk had to say about the initiative:

“We’re trying to figure out if we can reduce the cost of selling the car and pass it on to customers. It’s an experiment with a finite time. It’s worth trying out.”

Surprises are also being prepared for those who bring ten new customers through the new referral system, as Tesla will allow them to buy a Founder Series Model X for the cost of a stock Model X crossover.

But wait, there's more. Tesla is rewarding those who are fast enough to be the first owner in each region where the company is operating to make ten referral orders, as each one will receive a free Tesla Model X crossover. The respective areas are North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

That being said, gentlemen, start calling your buddies.
