There is somewhat of a strange parking rule in Moscow's renowned Red Square: no car without any Russian-built parts is allowed to park there... That was until this weekend, when the rule was broken by Tesla and the Roadster electric vehicle, which became the first car without any Russian parts in it allowed to park there.
“The Roadster is an iconic and ground-breaking car, so it’s appropriate that it made history in such a poignant way,” Tesla technician Luke McClure said in a statement. “It was humbling to be granted the honor of parking in Russia’s most hallowed ground – and at the same time we have been mobbed by fans excited to see the Roadster in person.”
The moment which will go down in history took place in front of the Autoville Museum, in front of some 250 guests. Moscow is Tesla's sixth stop in the recently kicked-off "Odyssey of Pioneers", a journey Tesla is taking together with partner and sponsor TAG Heuer. The tour is 37,000-kilometer long and will cover 15 cities and more than 150 towns on three continents.
The partnership between Tesla and the watchmaker became public at this year's Geneva Auto Show, when the 2010 TAG Heuer Tesla Roadster was presented.
The car features an interior design signed by Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen, created with TAG Heuer design elements. These elements include a specially designed center console, purpose built to host a TAG Heuer concept watch.
The Tesla incorporates a TAG Heuer Meridiist mobile phone and a one-fifth second Heuer Limited Edition Stopwatch. On the outside, the Roadster comes in Foucault Field Gray and features drawings inspired by the new TAG Heuer concept watch.
