Tesla Roadster No. 1,000 at NAIAS

American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is displaying at the 2010 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) the 1,000th Roadster ever produced. To give it the proper anniversary stance, Tesla badged the Roadster with the unique Vehicle Identification No. 1,000 and gave it a Millennial White paint finish, with a unique interior and carbon fiber accents.

"A year ago right here in Detroit we had delivered about 150 Roadsters, so VIN 1,000 is a humble but important milestone for us. It's fitting to do something special with this unique car," Tesla CEO Elon Musk said.

The car has a price to match, as it will be sold for $175,000. All of the money will be donated by Tesla to several charities in metro Detroit, listed below:

  • Forgotten Harvest - focused on alleviating hunger and waste by rescuing food from more than 450 food industry donors
  • the Children's Harvest - helping disadvantaged children and families
  • FOCUS: Hope - food and health programs to single low-income mothers and children
  • Sierra Club - grassroots environmental group
  • National Wildlife Federation - conservation organization

In addition to the 1,000th Roadster, the VIN 750 which managed to complete a 2,700-mile cross-country road trip to Detroit from Los Angeles, is also showcased at NAIAS. The Tesla Roadster accelerates from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, thanks to the 288 hp 375 volt AC induction air-cooled electric motor with variable frequency drive.

Tesla will also display at NAIAS the future Model S, marking the Detroit debut for the soon-to-be highway capable EV.
