Tesla Roadster Makes History, Wins FIA Cup

A significant event for the electric vehicles took place over the weekend, as the Tesla Roadster became the first electric vehicle to win the three-day Monte Carlo Alternative Energy Rally (VEA) and achieve the first victory for an EV in an FIA-sanctioned competition.

"This is the first time I’ve won a 1,000-kilometer rally using only €24 euros worth of fuel – proof that the electric Roadster is definitively revolutionizing the car industry," former Formula 1 driver Erik Comas said after achieving the feat behind the wheel of the winning Roadster"

"The Roadster is just as fast as some other supercars I’ve piloted – and it’s astoundingly more efficient than any rival."

Aside for winning the competition overall, the Roadster managed to clinch the win in two other additional categories, the Efficiency Cup and the Electric Vehicles Cup. The Tesla was driven in the competition by Rudi Tuisk, Tesla’s Australia general manager and former chief European technician, and former Formula One driver Erik Comas.

The three-day challenge won by the Roadster was designed to test the range and performance of some 100 alternative-fuel vehicles. The 1,000-kilometer challenge comprised highways, two-lane back roads, mountain passes and sprints on the Monaco F1 track.

"In a humble way, I felt like I had the privilege of witnessing history today," Tuisk said, comparing the win to the feat achieved by Audi in 2005, when one of its cars became he first diesel-powered car to win the 24 Hours of LeMans.
