Tesla Roadster Leased for Road Rallies

Former Formula One driver Erik Comas has launched the Green Cars Challenge, with his company purchasing five Tesla Roadsters to rent them for multiday touring excursions in the Swiss Alps and the French countryside. Green Cars Challenge participants will make pit stops at award-winning restaurants, hotels and spas.

In addition to serving corporate customers on multiday excursions and team-building exercises, Green Cars Challenge will also participate in motoring events and eco rallies.

Last week, at the opening of Tesla’s new showroom in Paris, Tesla CEO Elon Musk personally handed over the keys to the first of five Green Cars Challenge cars to Comas.

Tesla Roadster became the first electric vehicle to win the Monte Carlo Alternative Energy Rally and the first to win any FIA-sanctioned championship. And that while being driven by Erik Comas himself.

“Driving the Roadster in Monte Carlo demonstrated, without a shred of a doubt, that there is no need to compromise between cars that are energy efficient and fun to drive,”
Comas said. “The Roadster also underscores that social and environmental responsibility are important messages for business executives in the 21st century.”

The Tesla roaster offers an EPA range of 236 miles for each charge and can be plugged into regular 120 or 240V household outlets. It uses a 3-phase, 4-pole electric motor that offers 185 kW (248 hp) and a torque figure of 200 lb-ft (270Nm) available from 0 to 6,000 rpm. The motor is air-cooled and allows the car to leave the 62 mile mark behind in 3.9 seconds.

The Tesla Roadster Sport’s motor has a higher density hand-wound stator, producing 215 kW (288 hp). This gives the car a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of 3.7 seconds.
