Tesla Roadster 3.0 Coming in August, Says Elon Musk on Twitter

Seven years have passed since Tesla Motors launched the Roadster in 2008, but no matter how good a product is, too much time on the market without add-ons can make it fall behind, technologically speaking.

That's not something Elon Musk wants to see happening to the Tesla Roadster, hence the company's intentions of releasing a 3.0 update for the Lotus Elise-based EV.

As they should be, Tesla Roadster owners are eager to see the upcoming upgrade installed on their cars, but one of them decided to take a direct method of approaching Elon Musk: a tweet.

Roadster owner @bonnienorman saw Twitter the best way of getting an answer straight from Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk. Since Musk in an active Twitter user, all @bonnienormam had to do was send a direct tweet. It said Roadster owners are getting restless as it demanded a status update on battery/ distance upgrade.

Elon Musk's answer came shortly after, saying "new Roadster battery should complete safety validation by end of July, so likely available in August."

What all Roadster owners expect will most likely come as battery swap. Once the new upgrade is finalized, the Tesla Roadster is expected to be rated at 70 kWh and benefit from 31 percent more energy. Despite performance and capacity improvements, Tesla says the new pack will be the same size as the original battery, but taken to a new level.

In addition, Tesla Motors will offer a better aerodynamically-tuned body kit, set to drop the Cd 0.36 drag coefficient to Cd 0.31, same as the 1990 Lamborghini Diablo or the 2009 BMW 7 Series.
