Porsche isn’t the only one targeting the Tesla clientele with its Mission E in Frankfurt, as we also want to show you a pair of performance sedan concepts coming from Taiwan.
Sure, when it comes to the level of expectations, the Thunder Power Sedan and Thunder Power Racer sit at the opposite end of the scale compared to the Mission E, but they’re still worthy of attention.
Coming for a Taiwanese power tool company, these EVs might have arrived in concept form, but they are said to enter production soon.
The four-door coupe-shaped shell conceals a rear-wheel drive architecture, with the floor housing a 124-kWh battery pack that uses lithium-ion technology. Don’t worry though, the racer comes with all-wheel-drive.
The platform can be had in two power versions, with either 308 or 429 hp, with the latter being able to hit 62 mph in under 5 seconds. As for the top speed, this sits at 155 mph (250 km/h).
The big promise comes from the all-important range, which the company brags will be as high as 404 miles (650 km) per charge. This announced value not only surpasses Tesla’s numbers, but also that of the Porsche Mission E.
The styling cues you see here are signed by Zagato and we have to admit we like what we see. Come to think of it, the extreme, spoiler-infused looks of the Racer make the Sedan look almost normal. These two concepts acted like a bit of a crowd-magnet being placed on the Frankfurt floor.
The big plan is to enter the international market
Thunder Power aims to enter the European market in 2017, while tapping into the potential of the Chinese market one year later. The US will follow afterwards.
