And so it begins. Starting this Friday, and probably for the rest of the weekend, tens of thousands of people are expected to arrive to the small settlements in the Nevada desert for fun, games, and perhaps some real action, either against the U.S. military or them aliens hiding there.
It's no secret now that officially the Facebook event that started as Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us has morphed into a festival of mockery, both online and off. But it's such a good show that it even attracts otherwise serious businesses.
In a tweet posted on Friday, Tesla (not Elon Musk) officially invites anyone who is riding a UFO out of Area 51 to stop by for a quick charge at its Supercharger in Beatty. That's a two-hour drive from Rachel, the place that has become ground zero of alien-themed, Naruto-inspired activities.
"Anyone riding a UFO out of Area 51 today can recharge at our nearby Supercharger in Beatty. One day only," the tweet reads.
Known now as Alienstock, the activity of so many people in the vicinity of a top-secret military base has got the authorities on edge.
In July, the Air Force warned against any activity that could threaten the base, saying it is always ready to protect America and its assets and that it discourages anyone from trying to come into the area.
To back them up, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) restricted the area for the folowing weekend to all aircraft, including police and emergency helicopters.
Earlier this week, news of two Dutchmen being arrested for trespassing surfaced, but at the time of this writing, no other incidents have been reported.
Then again, the day is still young.
The original Facebook event was created by network users Sh*tposting cause im in shambles, SmyleeKunm and The Hidden Sound.
