This is a story about a Tesla Model S P85D that has travelled to Mexico, in search for some not exactly legal racing thrills. The driver of the electric vehicle must’ve been happy with his itinerary, as he came across a pair of cars that almost play in the same hp league.
The Tesla met a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo that has been seriously boosted, as well as a C7 Corvette gifted with a procharger and a ton of supporting mods.
Before we talk about the head to head action, we must discuss the tech side of the vehicles. We’ll go over the Tesla quickly, since we already mentioned its P85D status. Insane Mode it is.
The Evo 8’s two-liter engine is famous for its tuning friendly nature, with the two-liter mill having received a 64mm turbo delivering 33 lbs boost. By the way, the driver of the JDM delight calls this a “low boost value”. At first, we expected this to be trolling talk, but if you watch the clip below, you’ll understand what the man had to say.
Then again, the truly spectacular representative of the internal combustion breed has to be the ‘Vette. This delivers 750 HP thanks to a ECS Nove Paxton 1500 blower - we’re talking about a Procharger, so this is a centrifugal setup. This one actually runs at low boost for the races seen here, delivering 7 psi.
As for the list of supporting mods we mentioned, this includes cam, headers, as well as a sweet methanol injection kit.
The three drivers duke it out on the streets of Mexico, racing on multiple occasions just to be sure of the results. Oh, and don’t worry about the Tesla’s lacklustre soundtrack, this is what the Corvette is here for. Not that the Evo is exactly silent.
