There was a bitter taste every green car lover was left with after Tesla Motors announced the Model 3 EV's launch will be delayed, but at least buyers and fanboys have the Model X to wait for.
Leaving fans aside and focusing on clients and potential clients for the Model X - scheduled to go on sale this September - it looks like the Model X is highly anticipated by the public. And by highly we mean twice as much as the Model S.

Back in December, Tesla told the world they have around 20,000 reservations made for the Model X, but now the number seems to have gone up to 24,000. How do we know this?

According to Elektrek, Tesla Motors Club forum members have been busy lately, searching and gathering data on the Model X, ever since Elon Musk announced the vehicle in 2012. The process behind this estimate is rather straightforward, as members post their sequence number for their region and version of the car (signature or regular production).

The data is regularly updated and was recently put on a graph that details the stats on each month (available in the article's photo gallery).

Of course, these are unofficial estimates, but still, it's worth taking a look at how things evolved. As you will see, we're dealing with an ascending line and keeping in mind the Model S sedan had around 12,000 reservations with deposits ahead of its launch, the Model X seems to be doing a lot better.

Nonetheless, the chart shows a significant decrease in reservations in the last three months of 2014. We guess that's due to Tesla's decision to introduce the all-wheel-drive dual motor versions of the Model S.

In any case, these readings should be taken with a pinch of salt, but they still provide a good insight into the Model X's 'career', since Tesla is still tight-lipped on the subject.
