In the red corner, there’s the Jaguar I-Pace. As for the blue and silver corners, Mat Watson of carwow decided to spice things up with not one, but two Model X utility vehicles. The only difference between them, apart from the color, is the P that stands for Performance.
On paper, the Model X P100D is the most potent and quickest EV of this showdown, but what about the 100D in comparison to the I-Pace? As far as the standing quarter-mile is concerned, the Jaguar has the Tesla beaten to the pulp. But if you change things with a rolling start, the 100D has the legs on the I-Pace.
Even though this selection of cars is interesting as far as drag racing is concerned, the way the three-prong battle was filmed is a letdown. One YouTube user commented: “What's the point in 360-degree videos? No one enjoys it.” But then again, this isn’t the only problem with carwow.
Time and again, the uploader decided that it would be better to write 2019 instead of the actual model year. For a European model nonetheless. And in spite of the flurry of negative comments over this practice that can only be described as clickbait, the online platform didn’t change the model year.
Watson left Carbuyer in 2016, joining carwow to mixed reception from his followers. The gratuitous and subjective bashing of the Dacia brand and South Korean automakers didn’t help in this regard, nor did Watson’s love for all things British and German.
On the upside, carwow makes haggling a thing of the past thanks to the configurator tool on its website. After choosing the specification you fancy, the platform then sends it to authorized dealers, which get back to the customer with the best deal possible.
Tesla isn’t available in the configurator tool because of the American automaker’s business model, but Jaguar is. In the case of the I-Pace, the retail price for the S trim level with the 90-kWh EV 400 drivetrain is £63,495. Because the electrified Jaguar is so rare and in demand, only one offer is available for this configuration, which isn’t an offer at all.
More to the point, Rockar Jaguar Stratford can take the price down to £58,995 including the £4,500 government grant for plug-in vehicles. Otherwise put, there’s no difference between buying the I-Pace directly from the dealer or through carwow as far as pricing is concerned. Thanks for nothing, I guess...
