Tesla Model X Arrives in September, Elon Musk Confirms in Letter to Shareholders

When we told you the big density of Tesla Model X test mules spotted in California hinted at a near launch date, we weren't expecting that to happen in September.

Yes, that's right, the Model X electric crossover will arrive next month. How do we know?

It's not because of a bird told us, but we had a look at Elon Musk's letter to the shareholders dated August 5, 2015. Among other issues, the Tesla Motors CEO dropped these lines:

"As we prepare to launch Model X in September, we are building more validation vehicles, executing final engineering and testing work, enabling our new manufacturing equipment and finalizing arrangements with our suppliers. We have been producing release candidate Model X bodies in our new body shop equipped with more than 500 robots as we fine tune and validate our production processes."

Don't jump for joy just yet, because as you know, there's a waiting list for the Model X and even if you manage to squeeze your name in now, you'll probably have to wait until 2016 to park your Model X on the driveway.

More important, you need to make a $5,000 deposit just to enter the list, so the less you wait now, the faster you'll receive your brand new Model X.

In the letter, Musk went on and said Tesla Motors expects to produce just over 12,000 vehicles, representing a more than 60% increase from a year ago, with this including a "small number of Model X deliveries".

Tesla Model X - what to expect

So far, we know each Model X will come with a standard all-wheel drive system based on two independent, digitally controlled electric motors.

The all-electric crossover will feature Falcon Wing rear doors that fold up to ease access to the third row of seats, but there's more. The EV will benefit from an almost 10,000 lbs (4,535 kg) pulling capacity.

The most frequent rumors talk about 90 kWh of battery capacity and a maximum range located somewhere near 230 miles (370 km), but it looks like we're less than one month away from knowing official details.
