A brand new Tesla Model S Plaid caught fire on June 29 in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. According to the Gladwyne Volunteer Fire Company, firefighters were called to “the 100 block of Rose Lane” a little before 9 PM to assist Station 25 (Merion Fire Company of Ardmore) in a fire. They were warned that it was a Tesla.
UPDATE: the fire took place on June 29, 2021, not on June 30, 2021. The article has been corrected.

Due to training with electric vehicles, the firefighters knew they would need a lot of water to kill the fire. That made them lay a 5-inch supply line to ensure a “continual water stream” to extinguish the blaze. The firefighters also knew they had to keep the battery pack cool so that the thermal runaway would not make it ignite again.

According to the Facebook post from the Gladwyne Volunteer Fire Company, they took three hours “dealing with this emergency.” Luckily, no one was inside the vehicle, and nobody got hurt. Check the post below.

Some websites said they could determine that this was indeed a Model S Plaid due to the badge on the trunk lid, which would still be visible in the pictures. The images we have seen are not so good. Even if it seems like it, we can't say that for sure.

It also has the new 21-inch Arachnid wheels, but those are also an option for the Long Range. We have also seen them in the Model S with a hanging airbag module, but a paper inside that car said it was a Long Range.

The fire was reported on multiple Reddit threads. The moderators erased the main one, but there are others that claim that the vehicle was moving while it was on fire, leading to jokes about self-driving capabilities that no production car so far presents.

We’ll try to find out more about the fire. If you happen to know the vehicle owner, please put them in touch with us. Most of all, we need to confirm if this was really a Model S Plaid. If that was really the case, it is undoubtedly not good publicity when a brand new vehicle is caught in a blaze like this.
