We’ve already seen what a Tesla Model S P85D can do when pitted against Italian exotics ranging from the Ferrari 458 Italia to the Lamborghini Aventador. But what if the dual-motor Tesla were to take on muscle cars?
In fact, we’re talking about a race against over a dozen muscle machines here. A P85D, which packed the usual 691 hp, was recently unleashed onto the drag strip, where no less than 17 high-octane contraptions followed suit - not all of them could qualify as muscle cars, but we get the picture.

The idea was to go for 1/8 mile passes while aiming for a 7.49s result, but without going under this time. As for the cars that took on what may very well be an automotive symbol of modern America, the list is deliciously diverse.

The contenders came from a plethora of brands, from Chevrolet to Plymouth and from Ford to GMC. And while you’d expect a Fox Body Mustang to be present, a Datsun 240Z was the exotic of the lot.

The results were rather extreme, since raising up to the challenge mentioned above is anything but easy when you’re out there on the strip. Of course, the target led to some incredibly close races that kept the audience on their toes until the very last moment.

The footage from the races was split in two clips and you can watch both below. Spoiler alert - the series of races took quite a lot to complete, so these guys battle it out day and night.
