With the Tesla Model S P85D packing 691 electron-powered horses, it was only a matter of time until we saw the Silicon Valley sedan battle it out with exotics. That time has come ladies and gentlemen drivers and we’ll talk about the twin-engined Model S racing a Ferrari and a Lamborghini.
The Prancing Horse race is captured in the clip below, while the Raging Bull adventure sadly doesn’t come with any footage, which means we only have the Tesla driver’s report, offered in the video description.
The Ferrari in question was not exactly the best choice for such a race, since we are talking about a 550 Maranello. It may pack a mighty V12, but this is a Grand Tourer from two generations ago. Then again, you can’t complain about such details when talking about (what is supposed to be) random public road racing.
The uploader of the clip claims he daily drives a Lamborghini Aventador. The man then explains he also drag raced such a Lambo:
“The Tesla pulled ahead in the beginning by about the hood length. But Tesla never got a chance to pull away. Instead, the Aventador kept up and was slowly cutting the difference between them with each gear shift. By the 50-60 mph, the Aventador caught up. By the 85 mph mark, the Aventador was half a car length ahead and the Tesla was only at 70-75 mph. So from around 0-60, the Aventador and Tesla P85D were pretty much neck and neck. But from 0-30 or so... the Tesla beat the Aventador. This gives you a general idea of how ridiculously fast the P85D is at the jump.”
Note that the Aventador did not turn to the Launch Control function. Using that would’ve made the race pointless.
It seems the guy was out test driving the Tesla Model S P85D, with the man explaining he’s ordered one and is expecting a delivery for Christmas.
We have to understand that while all races of this kind lack any scientific conditions (as acknowledged by this driver too), there can be differences between them. While the 2015 Corvette Z06 vs 2014 Viper TA races seems as well-executed and relevant as possible in the given conditions, the stuff we are dealing with here doesn’t make it past the “entertainment” level in our books.
