Tesla Model S P100D vs Drag Cars, Probably Last 1/4-Mile Clip Before the Update

By now, anybody with even a remote interest in the Tesla Model S has come across the P100D incarnation's drag strip performance. Whether going up against Hellcats of supercars, the current range-topping version of the electric sedan has caused quite a quarter-mile stir.

We are now back on the Model S-related 1,320-feet topic to bring you what could be the last important P100D video before the upcoming performance-uncorking Easter Egg (more on that below).

This piece of footage comes from the Tesla Racing Channel, a YouTube label that stays true to its name, having pitted its P100D and P90D against a ton of machines this year.

The clip we have here is focused on showing what happens when the P100D dukes it out with racecars rather than the factory machines mentioned in the intro. Those of you who aren't following the drag racing realm closely might be surprised to see how creative the various drag strip classes can be.

Let's talk about that Easter Egg again, shall we?

Since we are now into the second week of December, we could expect the promised velocity-related Easter Egg for the P100D models, which targets both the Model S and the Model X, to show up anytime.

While this is an over-the-air update, it will obviously take a while for owners to figure out how to unleash it.

As for what the new software will do for the Palo Alto vehicles, the Model S P100D will be able to hit 60 mph in 2.4 seconds, while its quarter-mile time will drop to 10.6 seconds.

The Model X is obviously on the list, with the upgrade scheduled to shave 0.1 seconds off the SUV's 0-60 and 1,320 feet times.

Speaking of which, here's to hoping we get our hands on the real-world results of the update as soon as possible.
