Tesla Model S P100D Runs Amazing 10.76s 1/4-Mile, Sets Stock 4-Door Car Record

With Tesla Model S P100D models storming drag strips across the country, it was only a matter of time until a record outside the EV category (read: an overall one) fell. And here we are, talking about the feat.

Over the years, the industry has made a habit out of gifting coupes with more power than sedans, as if the rear doors' weight meant ultimate performance couldn't be achieved anyway.

Well, the P100D, with its open-minded aura, blew away such misconceptions over the weekend by setting a new world record for the quickest stock four-door vehicle.

The EV managed to deliver a 10.76s 1,320 feet sprint at 122 mph, while racing a Chevrolet Camaro whose specs became irrelevant.

The adventure took place at the Palm Beach International Dragway, where a pair of P100Ds enjoyed a solid recharging setup. For one thing, there's a Tesla Supercharger only a few miles away from the track.

Even so, the Tesla-racing crew seen here (connected to the Dragtimes YouTube channel), wanted to use an on-site electron juice setup: "This is where our friends at Florida Drilling (who own multiple Teslas) were able to assist by setting up one of their 150kW generators on a truck along with twin Tesla HPWC chargers on board capable of charging up to 80 AMPs each. The generator is actually powerful enough to hookup another 5 Tesla charging stations if needed,"

The team also gives us a nice recap of the Tesla Model S drag strip performance: "Electric car drag racing has come a long way since we started drag racing our P85 about 3 years ago, not only have the 1/4 miles times dropped astoundingly from the P85 @ 12.3, P85D @ 11.6, P90DL [Ludicrous Mode] @ 11.2 and now the P100DL [Ludicrous Mode] @ 10.7,"

Oh, and by the way, there are always exceptions to the coupe vs. sedan unspoken rule mentioned above, as is the case with the Hellcat unidentical twins. And in case you want to see how a P100D does against a Challenger Hellcat, you can check out this story.
