Tesla Model S Is the Safest Car Ever Built, Says NHTSA

Tesla Motors has announced that their Model S sedan has been awarded with an overall five-star safety rating and a combined record of 5.4 starts in the Vehicle Safety Score by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, making the EV the safest vehicle ever built and tested by the NHTSA.
According to Tesla, the Model S was awarded a five-star safety rating in every subcategory without exception, a performance achieved by about one percent of all cars tested by the government until now. Moreover, the sedan set a new record for the lowest likelihood of injury to passengers, exceeding safety scores of all SUVs and minivans.

In addition, Tesla said the Model S’ lithium-ion battery has never caught fire during testing or customer use, despite several high speed impacts. More info on Tesla’s NHTSA vehicle safety record can be found in the press release attached below.
