Tesla Model S Drivers Travelled More Than 1 Billion Electric Miles

With the green car trend steadily making a name for itself in the automotive realm, carmakers are starting to brag about different things now.

Like, for example, how many miles have their clients travelled in electric vehicles. After Hyundai, Tesla couldn't miss the party so here we are, watching Tesla Motors' latest video telling us Tesla drivers passed 1 billion electric miles.

Speaking of Hyundai, last week the Korean brand let us know Tucson Fuel Cell drivers accumulated enough emission-free miles to reach the Moon and come back to Earth. So if that seemed impressive, wait to see how Tesla Model S drivers performed.

According to Tesla Motors, in just three years, Model S owners around the world have driven over 1 billion miles (1.6 billion km). But take this, Tucson Fuel Cell owners: this distance is equivalent to 4,186 trips to the Moon, a roadtrip lasting for 2,000 years or 10 years of pumping gas.

Also, Tesla informs us that these electric miles have prevented over 570,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Considering there are approximately 75,000 Tesla Model S sedans roaming the streets around the world, after a quick math exercise, it appears every car travelled, on an average, around 13,500 miles (21,726 km).

A lot of that is due to Tesla's continually expanding Supercharger network. Since the system was opened two and a half years ago, in the USA alone, Elon Musk's company has 194 charging stations while 443 Superchargers are available around the world at this time, with 20 in construction and 27 awaiting permits.

However, the 2 billion electric miles mark should be reached in another three years, considering Tesla Motors will soon reveal their Model X crossover, and hopefully the Model 3 won't see its launch thrown into turmoil by other delays.
