The dual motor Tesla Model S is surely the coolest electric sedan you can have, and the most powerful one one the planet to be honest, but fitting the extra electric unit under its skin plays a major role in power management.
To stop range discrepancies with the 4WD Model S versions, Tesla promised a software update to roll in and help improving it by about 10 percent. The new code is said to put the secondary motor in a “torque sleep” mode when cruising down the highway at 65 mph (105 km/h).

This means the P85D and its relatives will boast with a 285-mile (458-km) range at cruising speed, while the combined EPA-cycle will return 270 miles (434 km) for the 85D version, 253 miles (407 km) for the P85+, P85 and 85 while the P85D will offer only 235 miles (378 km) on a full battery.

Further upgraded features and conveniences with OS 6.0

The software upgrade that will fix the range issues is said to arrive by the end of January 2015 and we're going to take a wild stab in the dark and say this could actually be Tesla's new OS 6.0.

More battery preserving features will arrive along within the new operating system, including two new power management modes - “Nightly” and “Always Connected”.

Location-based Smart Air Suspension is included too in order to automatically raise the car's suspension when arriving near your house driveway and you'll also be able to start the car using only your smartphone and no keyfob at all.

The massive touchscreen will be enhanced with an updated satellite navigation system which will be able to provide real traffic data and as a bonus there's now a way you can name your Tesla.
