Now that Tesla has refined its Model S line-up, we can start treating the electric sedan the same way we do regular (read: internal combustion engine powered) machines. For one thing, this means we’ll skip the now-usual P90D and P85D acceleration videos and move on to a more civilian Model S, namely the 70D.
For those of you who are not familiar with the current Model S range, we’ll mention this starts with the 70 and the 85 rear-wheel-drive (hence single-motor) models, while the list of all-wheel-drive (dual motor) incarnations includes the 70D, 85D, as well as the range-topping P90D.

This means we’re here to discuss the performance of Tesla’s entry-level all-wheel-drive sedan.

The official numbers tell us the P70D has a combined output of 328 hp and 387 lb-ft (that's 525 Nm) of twist. This allows the electric vehicle to hit 60 mph in 5.2 seconds and play the quarter mile game in 13.5 seconds.

We’ve brought along a piece of footage that shows the Model S P70D performing real-world 0 to 60 and quarter mile tests. Just don’t tell anybody that the triple-digit moments happened while the car was traveling on public roads.

Previous Tesla Model S instrumented tests have shown that the official numbers can be beaten, and we’re referring to the o to 60 sprint here.

OK, got it, but what happens in this series of tests?

As for what happens in this set of trials, we have to mention the P70D registered pleasing results. To be more precise, the sedan managed to hit 60 in 5.01 seconds, while it took 12.62 seconds to complete the quarter mile run.

As you’ll be able to notice in the footage below, the acceleration rate seriously decreases as the Tesla passes 100 MPH, but that’s what the higher models in the range are for. That and racing our favorite muscle cars and supercars.
