If you’re in the market for a Model 3, the one to purchase is the Long Range with the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. This spec is currently listed at $46,990 on the U.S. configurator, which is pretty good value for what you’re getting as standard.
Like any other electric vehicle, the 75-kWh battery of the Model 3 costs a lot. $13,500, to be more precise, for a remanufactured pack. This price comes courtesy of a service invoice published by Current Automotive, which also includes wiring harnesses, coolant, and a few other bits.

The pre-owned EV retailer highlights that “$13,500 isn’t exactly indicative of the Tesla’s cost to build a battery. There could be a margin on the part to help cover costs or create profit.” Taking into consideration the economies of scale that support Tesla’s business model, Current Automotive may be right.

Elon Musk has publicly announced that battery costs will go down to $100 per kilowatt-hour in a few years’ time, which is extremely important for the Palo Alto-based automaker because the $25,000 “entry-level Tesla” is right around the corner. Also worthy of note, the best-selling electric vehicle manufacturer in the world is developing a million-mile battery pack.

At the present moment, the most affordable EV from Tesla is the Model 3 Standard Range Plus. The rear-wheel-drive sedan with a partial premium interior and the smaller of two battery options can be had from $37,990, excluding potential savings. In this spec, you can expect up to 263 miles (422 kilometers) with a full charge and 5.3 seconds to 60 mph (96 kph).

At the other end of the spectrum, the Model S has the most range at 402 miles (647 kilometers) for the dual-motor Long Range Plus. As far as future vehicles are concerned, the Model S Plaid promises 520-plus miles (837 kilometers) in late 2021, and the second-generation Roadster will level up to 620 miles (998 kilometers) from a 200-kWh battery pack.
