Tesla Model 3 Interior Video Details Multimedia Interface and Air Vents

Surprising absolutely no one, the interior design seems to be the main talking point around the newly released Tesla Model 3 weeks after the electric sedan was introduced to the public.

That's because it's unlike anything we've seen so far. Take any element of the Model 3's cabin - the floating display, the absence of the instrument cluster behind the wheel and so on - and you will find them in previous cars as well, but none managed to gather them all together under one roof.

As we've said before, the layout of the Model 3 dashboard is as much a statement of design as it is one of intention. As a self-proclaimed leader in the race for autonomous technology Tesla needs to keep appearances high, so the new EV had to point toward a self-driving future.

And, if you can get over the presence of that pesky steering wheel and pedals, it does. That horizontally-oriented screen is perfect for watching entertainment of any kind - much more so than the vertical ones, albeit larger, in Tesla's previous models. And the absence of any buttons? Well, that helps with making the driver feel less and less like they're the one in charge.

However, autonomous driving is still an uncertain amount of time away from us, so the Model 3 has to work with a human behind the wheel too. And, according to Kevin Rose, the man who filmed this clip, it does. After his experience in the new EV, he wrote on Instagram: "I drove the new Model 3 Tesla yesterday. I'm in love."

The video, shot from the passenger's perspective, shows the large floating display has plenty of room for all the important pieces of information, but we're still not entirely sold to controlling everything strictly via a touchscreen. Just imagine the nightmare of doing anything on a bumpy road.

But there's no point in fighting the future, and we guess this is it. The one thing we do love, though, is the absence of any air vents. For some reason, cars seem unable to have the cold air flow into the cabin in a more diffuse way, so the vents don't blast a blizzard into your knuckles or knees. We can't know for sure, but the system in the Model 3 looks like it could change this by having just a thin slit that runs the entire width of the dash through where the air gets pushed up.

The clip also reveals the new door handles. They aren't self-presenting like on the other Teslas, but they do sit flush with the rest of the door panel which makes them look more upscale than they really are.

Our guess is the Model 3 interior will continue to split people's opinions, but at the same time, we're 100 percent sure it won't do anything to hurt the car's sales. Ten percent of the reservation holders may have asked for a refund (some probably precisely because of the interior), but they will be quickly replaced by the skeptics who wanted a cheaper Tesla, but weren't convinced the company would stick to the promised timeline.
