Tesla is all sorts of excellent things, but there is always room for improvement. If one celebrity had a say in it, she would make sure Teslas were less quiet because, as they are now, they are cat killers. In the most literal sense.
Jamie Lynn Spear is Britney Spears’ younger sister, an actress and singer in her own right. She came up with Nickelodeon, as the lead in Zoey 101, but she attained national notoriety when she announced her pregnancy at 16, which sent her career into hiatus. She’s since experienced a comeback, so while she’s incredibly famous by association, she has fans of her own.
She’s speaking to them about an issue she’s been experiencing, while tagging Tesla CEO Elon Musk and directly asking that he do something about the issue. Because her Tesla is so quiet when it starts and rolls away, her cats almost always fail to hear it, so she’s lost a bunch of them already.
Spears made the revelation in her Instagram story, and you can see a video of it at the bottom of the page. She doesn’t go into the gory details, but she says she’s also thought of a solution. Maybe Teslas could “make one of those noises that bother cat or animal ears when it cranks up, so that way they know something's happening and they aren't caught off guard. And, things don't end in a very tragic way.”
“Elon Musk, let's figure this out. I mean, you owe me a couple cats,” Spears continues. “Yes, I am fully aware that there's some user error involved in this, but I'm just saying, you know, let's collaborate to save some cats’ lives.”
While this could be easily dismissed as a non-issue, Spears does have a point, including the part about this being a “user error” that could be remedied by paying more attention. EVs are all required to make some sort of noise when moving slowly, precisely so as to avoid pedestrian accidents. This could also work for animals, as the noises would scare them away.
Not surprisingly, Elon Musk has not responded to Spears’ request yet.
