Tesla Employees Fired by Blog

Last week, news concerning a heavy job cut at Tesla Motors spread on the web and everybody talked about the financial crisis which made another important victim in the automotive industry. However, new interested things related to Tesla's decision were unveiled today: it appears that the employees weren't informed of the dismissal and they found out about it through the company's... blog. That's right, the Tesla's engineers found out that they're jobless by browsing the web and reading Elon Musk's, the Chairman of the Board, Product Architect and CEO, blog entry.

In fact, the chairman didn't even mention how many employees will leave the company but explained that the Rochester Hills office will be closed in the near future.

“There will also be some headcount reduction due to consolidation of operations. In anticipation of moving vehicle engineering to our new HQ in San Jose, we are ramping down and will close our Rochester Hills office near Detroit. Good communication, tightly knit engineering and a common company culture are of paramount importance as Tesla grows,” Musk wrote on the blog.

Moreover, it seems like things can get even worse than that. According to Jalopnik, the remaining 10 percent of the employees will have to move to the San Jose headquarters with no costs covered.

Tesla Motors, based in San Carlos, California, USA, currently has approximately 250 employees so such a massive job cut would reduce the company's production capacity to only a few units per year. For instance, the electric car manufacturer planned to build around 300 units by the end of 2008 which sounds like “Mission Impossible IV” with such a small number of engineers.

Just a final note about this whole frenzy: Musk said that good communication is extremely important for the company since it is continuously growing up. We wonder where's the good communication when your employees get fired by blogs...
