Tesla Continues Placing Easter Eggs with Every New Update. Here's the Latest

Tesla has a long tradition of hiding little useless tidbits that the cars' owners can discover accidentally - or just browse the Internet and find out about them without much effort, as you are now.

On the last update, there were two Easter Eggs that caught everyone's attention. One allowed the user to switch between vehicle types - if, for some reason, you wanted to make pretend you had a P90D even though you actually drove a 75D, you could set your displays to show that. The second one transformed the road the digital model of the car traveled on into a flashing rainbow.

It would appear that making their cars more colorful is a prime activity at Tesla, as this new Easter Egg also focuses on flashing lights that change color. Instead of doing it on a screen, though, this time it will affect the ring around the charging point. Those who have three-year-old children will find this latest addition to Tesla's growing collection of hidden "gems" very useful, while all the others will probably give it a go once, say "mhm" and go back to their business.

The trick is activated by pressing the charge button found on the handle ten times in quick succession (it was similar to the rainbow road, only there it involved the Autopilot stalk) with the car locked and charging. As a result, the glowing ring around the charging point will begin to flash in different colors, as demonstrated in the video below. Spoiler: it's as uninspiring as you'd expect. Furthermore, reports suggest that it might not work on older models, despite having the update.

We think Tesla needs to show a little more creativity with these Easter Eggs or drop them altogether. It doesn't have to do them, so there's no point in coming up with weak ideas. And it shouldn't worry about it too much, as they're not the reason people buy their cars. Hundreds of miles of range and Superchargers, on the other hand, are.
