Tesla Competitor Faraday Future to Reveal Concept EV at 2016 CES

Big time competition is on the rise for Tesla Motors, as Faraday Future discreetly makes its way up to surface with a concept EV rumored to be revealed at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

US-based startup Faraday Future seems to be the only other manufacturer to offer something new, exciting and green on the automotive market and which could pose a threat to Tesla Motors at the same time. And it looks like we’ll get a glimpse of that at the upcoming 2016 CES, where the company is said to bring its own concept car.

The company’s goal is to launch fully electric vehicles that will offer breakthrough connectivity between them and the driver, as well as fully autonomous capabilities and unique in-vehicle content.

Information about all these features is scarce, but during the recent LA Motor Show, the company’s design chief Richard Kim has said he envisions a car that will be able to learn the driver’s preferences and adapt to his/her needs on the go. This could be completed by the possibility to make use of the time spent in traffic to get things done or just profit and relax.

“I want to see a scenario where you sit in traffic for two hours, where you’re connected, there’s aromatherapy and a really nice chair in an ergonomic position,”
Kim explained. “You can get a ton of work done, watch a movie. With time, you don’t just want to connect, you want to be able to disconnect and relax.”

The company is also set to market its cars differently, in a way that isn’t that focused on pushing large numbers out the dealership’s doors. Faraday Future’s plan could rely on a scheme similar to how smartphone apps work. This somewhat translates into selling a basic vehicle that can be enhanced via subscriptions and apps that will run on the car’s infotainment system.

On the specs side, the soon-to-be-unveiled Faraday model is said to use a battery with 15% more capacity than the 85 kW-h unit on the Tesla Model S, which should offer a range of over 300 miles (480 km). Previous teasers also show the car boasting a sleek, wedged shape to provide a low drag and better use of energy.

Sounds more than interesting, but there’s a long way until we’ll get to see one rolling on the street, as Faraday Future expects its first production model to arrive in 2017.
