Tesla Motors is attempting to set a Guinness World Record for least non-drive time for an electric vehicle traveling across the United States, with two Model S sedans that will be driven from Los Angeles to New York.
The Tesla coast-to-coast rally began at midnight last night, when the drivers left the manufacturer’s design studio in Hawthorne, Los Angeles. The company is aiming to achieve the record by using the recently-completed Supercharger network, which consists of over 70 stations across the United States.
“The trip will take the cars through mid-winter conditions across the middle of the country, with stops only at Superchargers,” Tesla said in a statement. The record attempt can be followed via Twitter using the DriveFree tag.
