The future release of the new Tesla electric vehicle, the Model S, has sent the American manufacturer in a type of executive shopping frenzy. The recent departure of the company's engineering chief, Mike Donoughe and the need to set up the manufacturing process for the Model S have called for the addition of two new people to the Tesla workforce.
The engineering chief seat will be taken over by Peter Rawlinson, former engineering head at Corus Automotive. Rawlinson was also in charge with some very welll know vehicles, like the Jaguar X and F types, Land Rover Freelander and Discovery, BMW 5-Series or Bentley Continental.
The manufacturing of the Model S will be supervised by Henry Brice, former assistant chief engineer for the North American Ford Fiesta program. He has a bachelor’s degrees in physics and engineering from Harvard, as well as a master’s degrees in engineering and business from the University of Michigan.
“It is truly an honor to work alongside Peter and Henry, who represent the best and the brightest of the automotive industry. Tesla is fundamentally about hardcore technology and beautiful design, which means building up Tesla’s vehicle engineering and manufacturing capabilities to match our industry leading position in the electric powertrain subsystem,” Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk said when announcing the appointments.
“Peter and Henry have engineered and manufactured of some of the world’s most recognizable and acclaimed vehicles – from concept to assembly line. This is precisely the type of depth and breadth of expertise we are aggressively recruiting to ensure that the Model S will be a superlative product.”
The two new appointments come in addition to the ones already made by Tesla these past month: John Walker, Ricardo Reyes and Jon Sobel.
