Kia has handed Rafa Nadal a customized EV6 crossover as part of the brand's partnership with the Spanish athlete. In turn, Rafa pledged to drive more electric vehicles during his day-to-day life. Moreover, the Rafa Nadal Academy will switch to EVs by 2022. Unfortunately, the Korean marque has not detailed the "customized" part of Nadal's EV6.
In line with his decision, Rafa will use the Kia EV6 for personal mobility in Mallorca but will also use the same model in his travels to major tennis tournaments, such as the 2022 Australian Open. Nadal will travel by plane to Australia, but he will be provided with an EV6 for his travels in the country.
Tennis fans know that Nadal suffered an injury some time ago, which got worse at Wimbledon and forced him to retire from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, as well as the US Open.
So, for tennis fans out there, the news is that Rafael Nadal will compete in the 2022 Australian Open and that he will arrive at the tennis courts in a Kia EV6. Nobody can say if Rafa will defeat Djokovic in their next match though, so people will just have to wait and see.

In case you are unfamiliar with that function, like other EVs, the EV6 from Kia can be used to deliver up to 3.6 kW of electricity, which turns it into a portable power supply for leisure or other activities. It is not the only vehicle in the world that can do this, but it is the kind of feature that fits in the "nice to have" category.
In Rafa's defense, the 35-year-old athlete also states that he is aware that his lifestyle is "not fully sustainable," but he motivated this through the fact that his job requires a lot of travel. Just like other green-minded athletes, Nadal pledged to do whatever changes he can in his life to be sure that he limits his CO2 footprint.
