An 18-year old driver from Boise, Idaho managed to flip his SUV while driving on a suburban road this weekend, after one of the four passengers he was traveling with decided to do a prank. According to Police reports, the 16-year old teenager thought setting his pal’s armpit hair on fire would actually be a funny thing to do. That is, until he saw the vehicle tumbled over.
Happily nobody was severely injured, even though only one of the teens was wearing a seat belt. Moreover, two of the passengers - girls, ages 16 and 17 - were even thrown from the vehicle in the resulting 5:30 a.m. crash. As for the driver, well he did initially try to escape any charges by lying to the officers, telling them he swerved the car to avoid an animal in the road.

According to New York Daily, after Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputies spoke with al five teens a different story emerged. A 16-year old boy admitted to lighting the driver’s armpit hair on fire, deputies confirmed.

Besides the fact that three of the teens were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the driver was cited for inattentive driving and the boy with the lighter got a citation for interfering with the drive’s safe operation of a vehicle.

Charges or no charges, we hope these fellows at least understood the risks of distracted-driving.
