UPDATE: Teenager Buys a Miata, Car Gets Bullied for Two Weeks at His High School in Texas

UPDATE3: The story looks fake, here are the details that point to this. Yep, it looks like we took the bait, but at least no Miata was hurt in the making of this trolling. People picking on the first-generation Mazda Miata MX-5 over its happy face isn’t anything new. Over the years, the little NA Miata has had to face tons and tons of ignorance from people who are more or less into the automotive phenomenon.

Nevertheless, nothing can prepared you for the story a teenager who recently became a Miata owner has to tell. The 17-year old took to Reddit, letting everybody know just how aggressive the kids at his high school have been to his car.

He’s been driving the NA for two weeks now, with the Mazda getting keyed eight times and having its wipers ripped out not once, but twice. Oh and don’t imagine the keying was confined to “tribal” motifs. Words we’d rather not use here were obviously put on the Mazda.

The story happens in Texas (Frisco), which might explain a part of the hate. In fact, the teenager himself has an explanation - “I’ve taken my father's Audi S5 to school numerous times and nothing has happened to that. i guess if it isnt a.) Lifted truck b.) 14/15 Mustang or c.) some fancy German car, they have a problem with it.

The school let the teenager down and he's seeking legal advice now

He obviously turned to his school, but it seems they wouldn’t get involved. In fact, the Miata owner was told the school is free of any obligation, since he had signed a contract acknowledging the institution doesn’t have surveillance cameras, nor is it responsible for any damage of this sort.

The teenager, together with his family, are meeting a lawyer on Monday to take legal action, even though they weren’t initially planning to. Given the severity of the case, we understand why the 17-year old prefers to not post images of his car, so we’ve chosen a random NA Miata to illustrate the article. That nice smile though...

UPDATE: The teenager's story has the Miata communities boiling. At least two online groups, the Dallas Forth Worth Miata Club and the Texas Imports Today, have offered to help. For instance, a member of the first is offering the 17-year-old his exoskeleton race Miata to drive to school for a week,

We've also reached out to Mazda to see if they want to get involved.

If this teen had a cent for every word written online about his Miata story, he'd be rich. But we're not in a movie. This is the cruel, real world, where people at his school vandalised his Miata to desperation. However, we'll remind you the story will escalate to the "lawyer" level next week and we're eager to see where that takes the little Mazda.

UPDATE 2: The teenager still hasn't discussed the situation with a lawyer (it should happen tomorrow), but the reaction stories have started showing up. For instance, this 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt SS owner decided to talk about how his keying story ended up making his car better.
