A 17-year-old teenager from Hampton has been arrested in relation to a car theft that occurred last September. It turns out that he had stolen the car, in order to pay off a drug debt.
The New York State Police have the teenager in custody and he’s looking at a string of charges that could put him away for some time, if convinced, PostStar reports. The Hampton teen stole a Cadillac Seville thinking it would help him settle an outstanding debt he had with a drug dealer.
Ironically, the debt was of about $80. Still, he was pressured into stealing the car by the dealer, who promised he would be let off the hook if he took the car from a local repair shop and then drove it to an isolated location. The plan was for the drug dealer to pick it up at a later time, but he never did get the chance.
The cops found the car stashed in a wooded area in Fair Haven, behind a local school, and then arrested the teen. He’s been charged felony grand larceny 4th degree for stealing the car, but he’s also been slapped with a violation of operating a vehicle without a driving license. After all, he did drive the car there after stealing it, didn’t he?
Even though it might seem ridiculous to agree to steal a car to pay off a relatively unsubstantial drug debt, it’s nowhere near as ridiculous as what a 22-year-old from Baltimore did last August. He didn’t have a driver’s license either, but he thought it would be smart if he took a car packed with drugs and a gun to take the driver’s license test.
The instructor was tipped off by the smell in the car, and the dude was arrested. He is probably in jail now and no, he still doesn’t have a valid license.
