Sometimes lightning does strike twice in the same place, as a teenager who crashed his father’s Lexus RC F recently found out. We have to explain the young driver was enjoying the charms of the 467 hp coupe on Mulholland Drive when the accident took place.
We’re not aware of what exactly led to the accidental meeting between the Lexus and one of the infamous cliffs in the area, but the RC F flipped onto its side.
Sure, with the car reportedly being just one week old, a stint on that highway isn’t exactly the best way to complete the break-in procedure for that sweet naturally aspirated V8.
Still, given the accident, the Japanese machine looks to be in better shape than we would’ve expected.
As it often happens after Mulholland Drive crashes, the crowd was happy to assist, so those who witnessed the unfortunate event rushed to bring the car back on its wheels.
The driver’s lack of experience obviously also shows in terms of accident experience, as the teen had forgotten to stop the engine - the V8 was still running while upside down, and given its wet sump lubrication system, we don’t expect that to have brought any good to the engine.
We’re not sure whether the driver hadn’t engaged the emergency brake or if the system failed to work after the accident, but once the car returned to a normal position, the incline caused it to start rolling towards the guardrail on the other side of the road.
Despite multiple men trying to hold the RC F back, with one of them (possibly the driver) even attempting to reach inside through the open window and pull the e-brake, the Lexus did end up hitting said guardrail. Then again, we don’t even want to imagine the kind of dive the coupe would’ve taken had the protection element not been there.
