A constant presence on autoevolution, Two Brothers Racing (TBR) is one of the exceedingly active aftermarket exhaust manufacturers, and it’s now time to introduce their Tarmac series small-displacement slip-on cans.
Just like any top-drawer exhaust manufacturer, TBR is trying to eliminate the gaps in its product line and since small-displacement and middleweight bikes are selling like hot cakes once more, a silencer like the Tarmac was one of the things we sort of expected. Initially available for the Kawasaki Ninja 300, the Tarmac exhausts are now offered for three more Honda two-wheelers: CBR250R and CBR500R, both 2014 model year, and for the 2014 Ruckus. However, the Ruckus scoot receives a top-notch full exhaust system for more weight reduction and performance increase.
The Two Brothers Racing Tarmac cans are made from aerospace-grade high-temp carbon fiber, and come with a stainless steel deep draw stamped inlet in brushed finish and a black billed CNC outlet. These silencers are supplied with a T-Tip noise reduction insert which can also be removed. Like all new high-performance TBR exhausts, the Tarmac come with a spiral-wound perforated core.
Tarmacs have a trapezoidal shape which provides excellent clearance through corners, and the supplied bracket can be used with a rubber grommet. Strong rivets keep everything in place, while still saving weight. For example, the Ninja 300-specific can shaves 6.5 lbs (just under 3 kg) off your bike, while adding 1.5 hp @12,200 rpm and 0.6 lb-ft (0.8 Nm) at 5,600 rpm.
Now, even though these cans are intended for use with smaller and cheaper bikes, they’re still high-tech aftermarket products and their price remains premium. Each of the 4 TBR Tarmac cans will set you back with $620 (€455). Hopefully the price will go down a bit as more items are added to the family.
