Tata Plays Down Flaming Nano

Earlier today, news of another Tata Nano vehicle catching fire came from India, causing, why not admit it, little media frenzy (say, compared to the Toyota recall which engulfed the globe).

The problem, potentially deadlier than the Toyota issues (meaning you could die a slow, agonizing death as the fire slowly eats away at your skin), the flaming Nano came to Tata's attention, who immediately sent a spokesman in front of the media, Business Line reports.

The spokesman confirmed the news and added "this is a unique case." Well, it's not an unique case. According to some reports (unconfirmed), so far at least four Nanos went ablaze. We are sure of at least one, which combusted late last year. So, probably an unique case in Mumbai, as the other incident took place in Delphi.

The most recent incident took place while the car was in motion, traveling on the Eastern Express Highway towards Mumbai. According to the witness accounts, the fire originated in the back of the car, where, coincidently, the engine is located.

"I have no idea what happened. A motorcycle rider overtook me and told me that the vehicle was on fire. The engine was behind me and I did not realize that the car was on fire," Satish Sawant, the owner of the Nano-turned ash told indianautosblog.com.

Luckily, he escaped unharmed and it would appear Tata is currently getting ready to pay the man back for his brand new, smokin' car. According to some experts, Tata may recall some Nanos here and there, to reassure the public everything is ok. Or not, giving the fact they believe "this is a unique case."
