Tata Plans 3 New Jaguars

Back in March this year, the Indians from Tata Motors landed themselves a sweet deal by buying (for about 2.3 billion dollars) from Ford Motor Company their Jaguar Land Rover stock thus gaining control of the legendary mark (rather funny for an Indian company to own a British one considering that the Brits held control of India for a long time).

Now Tata Motors is making its first move as head of Jaguar and recently announced that it has 3 new models under development that will bear the leaping cat emblem on their hood. The first concept is said to be a roadster, a derivative of the XF sedan. The second car will be a lightweight sportscar that is aimed pretty high since Tata announced it will be competing against the Porsche Boxter. The third car is still very hazy but most people, including Jaguar dealers, tend to think it's going to be a luxury car.

According to Autonews.com, they heard the news at a meeting which took place in New York with Jaguar executives where Dick Fitzpatrick, owner of crest Jaguar of Woodbridge, had this to say: “These [cars] are under very serious consideration. [Tata] will move fast”.

However, the only car that Tata is not considering at the moment is an SUV. The reason for that is not that difficult to comprehend. An SUV would compete directly with Land Rover and since the two companies share the same “parents”, no profit would come from that venture.

Though they took the company from Ford, the American giant still leaves its mark on the British cars by supplying powertrains and also tech support, that so you know what you will be paying for when these models hit the streets.
