Ladies and gentleman, contain your excitement 'cause Tata Motors is planning to strap a turbocharger atop the 624 cc engine that powers the "one-lakh car." Further more, an automated manual transmission known as the F-Tronic is also on the way, along with an electric variant dubbed as the Nano e-rev.
This exclusive piece of news comes courtesy of Autocar Professional. According to the Indian publication, inside sources indicate that Tata Motors is planning to take the wraps off the turbocharged Nano during this years' Diwali, also known as the festival of lights.

Thus, the Tata Nano Turbo is slated to break cover on the 23rd of October, when the Hindu festive season will kick off. After Tata introduced power steering on the Nano in January, the Indian automaker is planning to further enhance the no frills city car by poking its power figures with a stick. Think of it as a Tata Nano GTI or something.

Currently, the two-cylinder SOHC engine displaces just 624 cc (38 cubic inches), has an all-aluminium block, uses Bosch multi-point fuel injection and is mated to a four-speed synchromesh gearbox with overdrive in 4th. That equals to 38 horsepower, 38 lb-ft (52 Nm) of torque and a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) run of 12.6 seconds.

Tata's research & development team is also cooking a range extended electric variant of the Nano. Known as the Nano e-rev, this eco-friendly city dweller will presumably borrow technological features recently showcased on the Tata Manza REEV demonstrator vehicle, which boasts a pure-electric drive range of 88 kilometers (55 miles).

Last but not least, the aforementioned publication reported a few months back that Tata also considers a Nano Active model, which is basically an open top variant with the roof pillars still in place just like the Fiat 500C cabriolet. Further more, the carmaker is also working on an upmarket version of the Nano, which will make use of an automated manual transmission bearing the F-Tronic moniker.
