At the end of last month, we reported that Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) are working together to develop a premium vehicle that is destined for emerging markets, with the car being badged as a Tata.
A Tata executive said that the company is planing to combine the best of both worlds: its emerging markets expertise and JLR’s product innovation and new car development abilities.
Now, it seems that Tata Motors might be willing to create a stronger connection with the British company it owns. Tata Motors has confirmed that it is currently considering co-operation with JLR for the development of powerplants, as just-auto reports.
The Indian automotive producer stressed the fact that the companies are not planing to establish any joint venture, adding that they are currently weighing all the options.
"It is an exercise, a co-operation to be undertaken," a Tata Motors spokesman was quoted as saying by the aforementioned source. "We don't know a date to announce - it is an exercise to explore Jaguar development of engines. [There are] no particular models so far."
However, the Tata spokesperson refused to offer any specific details about the project.
"We are not ready to disclose any information at this stage,” he told just-auto.
In an interesting announcement, the spokesman said that Tata Motors has already joined forces with JLR for the completion of various projects, Again, he did not offer any specific details, neither about the projects nor about the time of their development.
