Tankoa Superyacht Concept Brings All the Fun Outside With Innovative Design

Chilling on a superyacht is nice, but a new concept from Tankoa proposes an entirely different approach to the experience, by turning the vessel into an outdoor playground on water.

The Genova-based yachtbuilder revealed a new superyacht concept earlier this month, with a fresh, innovative design that brings all the fun outside. It does so by basically taking traditional yacht layout design and turning it on its head, with a focus on functionality and elegance.

The result is a bold, informal but still stunning yacht called, for the time being, TLV62. The name might not be the most elegant, but that’s only because it’s still in concept stage. Once Tankoa is commissioned one such superyacht, it will be given another, proper name. Hopefully, one worthy of this beautiful vessel.

TLV62 measures 62.5 meters, which is a little over 205 feet. According to Yacht Harbor, it’s designed by Giancarlo Mussino, MD of the SINOS brokerage house that sold and delivered Tankoa’s 50m hybrid M/Y Bintador, and yacht designer Luca Vallebona.

Based on the 60-meter technical platform from Tankoa, this concept superyacht takes a new approach to conventional yacht design, creating open, informal spaces that turn it into an outdoor playground on water. The focus is on functionality and on the idea of enhancing the experience at sea, primarily by removing visual barriers between guests and the sea.

Boasting a clean profile with an “almost vertical bow,” steel hull and aluminum superstructure, the aesthetic of TLV62 is bold but not aggressive. It stands out without being an eyesore, blending elegance with functionality, innovation with traditional lines. Every indoor space that could be brought outside has been converted, with the most outstanding being the living room.

“Most of the time on superyachts the main salon takes up a lot of space but is rarely used,” designer Vallebona explains. “So I brought the living area outside, reduced the size of the dining room, and put a smaller TV lounge with its own AV rack room and the main exterior dining table on the upper deck aft.”

The sundeck takes up half the length of the hull. When guests are not working on their tan, they can take a dip in the sea, or use the asymmetrical pool on the aft deck – a fresh design innovation all on its own. A secondary pool and a jacuzzi are also available. The open decks above are designed in such a way as to do away with visual barriers, thus creating the impression that guests become one with the sea.

Speaking of guests, this superyacht can accommodate up to 12 of them in 4 double cabins, a VIP suite and a master suite, as well as a sizable crew in separate staff quarters, including mess and saloon, as well as a gym specifically designed for the crew.

The master suite covers 300 square feet and comes with a fresh layout as well, the kind you’re not likely to see on any other vessel of this size. Before getting to the actual bedroom, you first have to go through a lobby, an office, a walk-through wardrobe and the ensuite bathroom.

The guest cabins are situated on the lower deck, with easy access to luxury amenities like a gym, an open-air lounge with a fire pit, a cinema, a bar and, of course, all the water toys your heart could desire. The superyacht features a side-loading garage for the limo tender, complete with an engineer’s cabin with direct access to the engine room. There is enough deck space for storing jetskis, and a crew jet tender available in another side-loading garage.

TLV62 is powered by 2 Caterpillar 3512 engines, which guarantee a maximum speed of 16.5 knots and a range of 4,500 nautical miles, at a cruising speed of 12 knots.
