It’s not very often that we come across brand new custom builds based on old car models, but when it happens, the result is often worth the while.
As part of our Muscle Car Month (we honor these machines until the end of May) we’ve talked quite a bit about Chevy’s Chevelle SS, one of the most successful muscle cars of the early years of the segment. The regular Chevelle was slotted between the Chevy II and the full-size cars of the brand, and it managed to impress the people back then, but in equal measure, those closer to our time.
Most of the Chevelle builds and finds we talked about have been completed for quite some time, so not only the base is old, but so is the restoration/rebuild/tuning. But that’s not the case with the 1966 Chevelle Pro Touring we have in the gallery above, shinning in a Tangelo Orange paint job.
The car, despite its age, is basically new. As in all the work done to it – in this case a restomod restoration - was completed in 2019. And now it’s on sale as part of the Barrett-Jackson online sale taking place this month.
The Chevelle was on the road since its completion for some 970 miles, putting to the test the reworked 283ci (4.6-liters) V8 fitted with new Edelbrock aluminum intake and carburetor.
Work on the car was not limited to the engine, but enough effort has been made to bring the Chevelle back to the glorious former self. Aside from the orange paint that seems to fit the purpose of the bike perfectly, the garage that worked on it also dressed the dashboard in a new canvas, fitted new gauges, a new steering wheel and steering column, and a security system to top it all off.
The car sells with reserve, and there is no estimate as to how much it could end up fetching.
