Talmacsi to Test Pedercini Kawasaki at Sepang

Gabor Talmacsi's chances of retaining his ride in the FIM's Moto2 championship have suffered a huge blow when the Hungarian rider found out that his projected team for the 2011 season, Jack & Jones by Antonio Banderas, decided to withdraw from the programme. Consequently, he started contemplating on a potential switch to the World Superbikes.

After finishing 6th in last year's inaugural Moto2 series, the former 125cc champion admitted to having agreed to test a WSBK-spec Kawasaki ZX-10R for Team Pedercini in January. The 29-year old will do some mileage on the saddle of the aforementioned machine on the Sepang International Circuit and then make a decision about a future switch to the WSBK with the Italian team.

According to his own comments lately, switching to World Superbikes – under the current circumstances, a seat in Moto2 seems highly improbable – may be regarded as a last chance to safeguard his racing career. In case it won't happen, he admitted retirement will become an option.

A few weeks back, the former MotoGP rider was not very enthused about a potential campaign in the World Superbike, as the series doesn't enjoy a whole lot of coverage in his native Hungary. However, the latest developments of his Moto2 situation has made him eager to secure a spot at Team Pedercini, where he has to fight a bunch of other riders in order to race through 2011.

In case Talmacsi does make it into the Pedercini Kawasaki lineup, the Italian team would have an all Moto2 lineup in place for the 2011 campaign, as their only confirmed rider for next season is 30-year old Roberto Rolfo, also a Moto2 competitor last year. As compared to Talmacsi however, the Italian took one win and a podium during last year's campaign, despite finishing off on a disappointing 14th place.
