Whether his last paycheck was $400,000 or $500,000, it’s safe to say 25-year-old Anthony Joseph Francis is not short on cash. So why did he sign up for Uber then? Well, if you have a couple of minutes to hang out with us you can find out.
A while ago we were reporting on this rather peculiar situation that had National Football League player A.J. Francis taking over the lead role. You see, the 25-year-old defensive tackle currently playing for the Miami Dolphins let all of his fans know they could hang out with him if they were to call for a Uber ride. That was because he decided to sign up as a driver for the transportation giant.

As we were saying back then, a lot of controversies have emerged ever since he announced his decision on Twitter, but it turns out it wasn’t a joke. The nice folks over at ESPN took a ride with the sportsman to see how being chauffeured by an NFL player feels like. Just like everybody else, they too wanted to find out what the real reason behind his decision was.

Even though we still think there’s some marketing thing going between Francis and Uber, it appears there are other reasons too. At some point, the 25-year-old sportsman admits that all the attention his decision attracted was planned, considering it made him rather famous, more popular than he already was.

Then, there’s also the excitement of driving strange people, always working for those reviews, trying to make the driving experience as pleasant as possible. This way you also befriend with your customers.

Francis’ Uber users seemed to have enjoyed the sportsman’s services so far, and even learnt a thing or two about what football is. One of the women traveling with him even promised she’ll go to a Dolphins match sometime.
