Take a Walk Down Memory Lane with This Custom BMW E39 M5

The E39 was pulled out of production in 2003 being followed by probably the most controversial M5 ever build, the E60. However, the E39 will forever remain a purebred M5 and, most importantly, a pure BMW.

The 5er had a 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine that developed 400 HP, 500 Nm of torque and a terribly high redline, situated at a mind boggling 7,000 RPM. This was also the first M5 not to be build by hand because of the high demand on the market. A total of 20,482 E39 M5s were made in just 4 years.

All the E39 M5s were equipped with a manual 6-speed gearbox whilst the suspension was a Mac-Pherson aluminum-intensive multi-link designed one that was also available on the standard 5er. The M division made some alterations though, like lowering the car by 23 mm, thicker front and rear anti-roll bars, steel balljoints and polyurethane auxiliary springs.

In 1999 the M5 had the most advanced engine in the world and, in order to keep that engine in perfect working condition, the dashboard had some pretty little red light showing you when it's safe to break the 4,500 RPM barrier and then the 6,500 RPM one in order to reach the top of 7,000 RPM.

Today, we're celebrating this amazing machine with a photo gallery worthy of M5 legendary status with a custom E39 from Need 4 Speed Motorsports. The silver M5 has been fitted with CH-R BBS wheels and a Big Brake Kit from Brembo. That's about it. Not too many alterations have to be done to a classic 5er like this one that looks amazing to this day.
