Take a Ride with Special Obama License Plates

Apparently, Barrack Obama has given birth to a new fashion in the United States. Anything that has to do with the first African-American president is catchy and can make big bucks during the hard days of the financial downturn.

This seems to be the case of the Obama license plates as well which are being sold for $50 a pair, Chicago Breaking News has reported. But hold your horses, we're not speaking about license plates that used to belong to the president rather about a product that was designed especially for Obama's fans.

The special license plates feature President Obama's smiling face and the words "Illinois Salutes President Barack Obama." A waving American flag fills the background.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White's office is selling them at the Chicago Auto Show over the next week at McCormick Place. But those who can not make it to Chicago must know that the license plates can also be bought online at ila.org/obama.

However, don't get too enthusiastic about the special Obama plates as they are only valid for two months. The temporary license plates are good for 60 days, starting with February 17 and ending with April 17.

What happens when they expire? After the plates are retired, they'll remain on sale as a collector's item in a market with no shortage of Obama merchandise.

Interested buyers should also know that the money collected from the sale of Obama special license plates will go toward the Illinois Library Association and iRead, a summer reading program for kids.
