We’ve seen the two new M cars from Detroit in various videos and photo galleries by now but the guys from EVO have something special planned for us. Their on-scene reporter, Henry Catchpole was also interested in the heart of the two, the engine.
The 3-liter biturbo unit was on display at BMW’s stand in Detroit and it looks absolutely brilliant. A little smaller than the outgoing S65 4-liter V8, the new S55 unit looks just as impressive.
Considering the specs it puts out, it’s only natural. After all it makes more power and more torque than the unit it replaces and yet its lighter by a considerable margin.
The two will arrive in showrooms around the US this summer starting at $62,000, bringing the manual 6-speed gearbox as standard and the DCT auto as an add-on option unlike what Henry is saying in the video below.
