Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Tag Heuer and Porsche are old business acquaintances, but as it turns out, it was just recently that everything became an official strategic brand partnership. From now on, we should expect interesting new things from the two companies, including an extensive motorsport collaboration alongside fresh product developments.
Speaking of the latter, Tag Heuer and Porsche kicked off the new alliance with the introduction of the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph special edition, which is available in two versions - with a metallic or leather strap - for $6,050 and $5,850, respectively.
“The strong friendship of our brand with TAG Heuer exists since decades and I am more than happy that we are now taking the next steps in the frame of a strategic partnership,” explained Detlev von Platen, the sales and marketing boss at Porsche AG. “We bring together what our customers love the most about both of us: authentic heritage, thrilling sports events, unique life experiences and the fulfillment of dreams.”
With the iconic Carrera nameplate being associated with both brands for decades, the companies considered it entirely befitting to use it for their first creative collaboration. This way, it acts as both a tribute to their heritage as well as a harbinger of things to come, if we’re correctly interpreting a hint: “the new chronograph offers a first glimpse at what they can achieve together.”
The Porsche name has a marking presence on the bezel of the new watch, with the letters engraved in a red font, while the company’s well-known hues of red, black, and gray are also carefully integrated into the overall design. Better yet, the crystal-clear case back sees the traditional oscillating mass get turned into a three-spoke steering wheel.
Inside, the watch’s movement is provided by the Calibre Heuer 02, system which has a power reserve of around 80 hours. Moving back to the front, the chronograph sports a special asphalt-like look for the dial, which was specifically created for this special edition watch and acts as a timeless tribute to open road adventures.
